Samplitude 11 Bypass Submix FX Chain Per Object
« on: February 08, 2012, 07:39:29 PM »
In a nut shell this is what I've got:

Two vocal channels with an empty fx chain.  Both vocal channels routed to a
submix channel, via the "Track Destination" button found below each channel
in the mixer, with verb in the fx chain

In between songs, when the vocalist is speaking, I want to eliminate the verb.
I split the vocal tracks into several objects, thinking I could bypass the fx chain
on a per object basis via the options available in the object editor.

Seems that checking the "FX Bypass" in the middle-right cluster of check boxes
doesn't bypass the verb applied to the submix channel.  I've alo tried unchecking
the two options found for DirectX/VST plugins (pre or post) in the "Fx/Routing"
button near the bottom of the right side.  I am using a VST plugin for the verb.

I thought perhaps the "FX Bypass" checkbox might only apply to the fx chain the
object is a member of (ie, not the submix channel, but the vocal channel itself).
Well, that doesn't appear to be true either.  I set the "Track Destination" for
each vocal channel to my playback instead of the submix channel, then applied the
verb to each vocal channel's fx chain, and for good measure turned off the verb
in the submix.  I still hear the verb on those objects with the "FX Bypass" on.

What am I missing?

Try using automation.

I'll look into that this evening.

Any thoughts on how the "Bypass" options work?

I'm have never used samplitude but i guess it should have live automation where you can change parameters of volume, pan, vst fx,etc.in playmode by moving the respective sliders and then keyframes are written as you make slider adjustments,or you can click and add points manually.

In your VST reverb plugin if there is an automation for that plugin avaailable you'll see an icon with a symbols that slightly represents some swimming sperms? That would indicate that the fx is automatable.Click on that and you should get alist of all the settings in that VST that you can check off which you'd like to automate or control.Than in playback a line will appear across your timeline representing the reverb ....turn up or down the slider or knob in the vst that controls the fx you desire and it is just like live mixing a band.Hope that helps.

Here's some random you tube video about samplitude automation...that user also has alot of others tutorials for samplitude that may help or not.Good Luck.

I've not noticed any automation for the plugin before, but I'll look closer.

Still seems odd the bypass button doesn't actually bypass anything, as far as I can tell.
Hmm.... unless the bypass button in the object editor bypasses effects applied to the
object, not the track/channel.

Alternately, I suppose I could just pull the objects I don't want the verb on
to a different track and not route it to the submix where the verb is applied.
