Tell me about the Tascam 564
« on: December 08, 2012, 05:17:58 PM »
There is one for sale locally for $125. Is it worth the money? Can it be powered by battery or is it strictly a plug in? Thanks in advance for your comments as I am new to taping and have very little knowledge of these things.

Take a look at:
http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/1996_articles/dec96/tascam564.html
This was written in 1996... Then I loved my MDs!

Nowadays, I think that the main (and big) problem is the availabilty of MiniDiscs. Then support. Then quality.
FWIW.

I had one of those 10 or 11 years ago. Made some nice live recordings of my band (4 tracks at a time) with it. By today's standards it's bulky, sound quality is not as good due to compression, and storage capacity is limited by what you can fit on a MD (if you can find any). Was nice back in it's day.
