Noise reduction help? Got hours of this noise..

Can't seem to correct this noise with my primitive tools. I'm pretty sure.it's a ground noise from using a recorder and pre on the same battery.... oops.

Any advice would be appreciated.

The first thing is the general record level is too low, which accentuates the noise.

If you look at the spectra there is series of sharp spikes.  In my experience, that is a classic example of batteries (a well known source of RF noise) being too close to external mics.  Or your recorder is too close to a battery box.  For example, you may have the recorder and batter box in the same pouch.  Some batteries are worse than others.  Try a few tests where you ensure good separation.  Try something simple like turning the recorder through 180 degrees, or flipping it over.

WaveLab 6 has a "denoiser" plugin that does wonders IMO! PM me and I can help you out ;)

anr... I grabbed the quietest point on the whole recording just so the noise was better isolated. I remember this being the process when I was in Audition... been a while since I've had to fix noise.

Bean, I have an old machine that chokes on WaveLab6 so I keep 5 and Audacity handy... guess it's about time for an upgrade..
