Topic: Can anyone help identify these mics?

I just picked up a used DAT (Denon D80) and these mics came with the rig. I have no idea what brand/type of microphones these are  so bare with me and my noobish questions!

Definitely Audio Technica.  And definitely Sound Professionals.  I'm willing to go with an older version of the SP-CMC-4 (based on the AT853).  To know what capsule, you'll need to know the letter or graphic on it (which isn't shown).

I had the SP-CMC-8's (old AT933's) which had that rotating clip shrinkwrapped on the outside so after digging around, I can confirm these are the 4's.  Odds are they've never been 4.7k modded so you're gonna run into distortion if you're at a loud show with them.

The preamp just brings the mics signal up to a line level. The mics will still distort!

Odds are there as never a mod performed to those (by the age/condition).   Preamp only helps give the mics juice but, as Bean's pointed out, they'll distort.

They definitely look like a -well used, tbh- pair of Audio Technica 853's. Try recording a loud sound source (home stereo cracnked up), if they distort they're def. not modded. If they don'¡t distort you can try to bring them to a live concert and record with them; odds are that they might distort even there anyways if they're not modded. Good luck

maybe i have been lucky but the only time mine have distorted was being feet from the stack or not powered correctly
