Hi there.  Sorry for asking a question that I'm sure has been asked my time before, but I couldn't see anything that answered my questions.

I want a way of recording guitar and singing (usually at home)... cheaply.

My current PC is so noisy that there's no way of recording anything near it, but that will hopefully change over the next couple of years, so I'd probably prefer to prioritise spending on a mic rather than anything else...

or I could go for an all in one recorder like the Tascam DR07 MkII, and the portability of something like this would be good.

Also, I have currently got a Superlux ECM999 mic, which I use for DEQ measurements.  I could run this through a DJ mixer (an old Allen and Heath Xone) into something with a line in as a short-term bodge.

We've currently just been using the built-in mini mics of a balte and mp3 player as a waying of making 'notes', but would like to be able to have something which would sound less distractingly bad.

Any words of advice or suggestions?

Thanks for any help.

If you're all in for simplicity and budget, get a TEAC VR-10 / Tascam DR-08 (same device, different brands and price tags) and you're set to go. I've been recording myself at home with that device and it gives a more-than-acceptable quality for less than $100.

Sorry for it's a Spanish song, but you can tell the audio quality anyway. I recorded and mixed this in 10 minutes yesterday, just 2 tracks alligned and faded with Audacity, no other post-proccessing done:

Thanks for the reply and the sample.  I'll have a look arround for good deals on those sorts of things, and see what I come up with.
