TKSB: Large C-clamp with standard Stud parallel to the jaw spine?

I'm looking for a manfrotto 649 clamp but with a longer jaw to get around a large I beam. What's your suggestion? I need that stud on the top so I can fix a 099b pole to it

Matthellini Clamps.  Probably cheaper from B&H but the page below shows all the models and the extender pole.  Digi-gal swears by them.

hmm, interesting. Definitely gets me in the right direction.

The attraction of the large jaw was that it would actually meet in the center of the I beam instead of just on the lower bit. This is actually for an installation at a venue.

what I'm looking at is having a pole that is parallel to the floor shoot out across the ceiling, with one end clamped to this I beam (which is perpendicular to the stage) and the other end being secured on the other side in some fashion. To do that, it's a span of something like 20 feet, and it would likely be a permanent install of sorts.

I'm wondering if it might be possible to get the venue to allow an eye screw or something behind or just at the edge of the curtain in the wood on the opposite side.

Maybe run a wire instead of extension bars?  From what Chris was saying I think he'd entertain something permanent.

Yeah, that might work, but preventing stuff from sliding to the center due to lack of tension is my Q, thats why I favor using a pole.

some tape or small clamps should keep it from moving, pole is nice but a wire is very versatile and less visible. Seems like other people besides us might use it too.

it was get approach the edge of the abyss but not fall in (or barf), that was my plan.  3 days later I remember there is this website and a hobby that I dump my non-critical spending on.

anyway, I havn't forgotten about this project, I'm just working on other things at the moment.
