PC won't recognize R-1
« on: May 27, 2013, 12:32:58 AM »
I used my Edirol R-1 for the first time tonight, and after the show I connected to my PC (running Win7) to transfer it, and the computer won't recognize it. It tries for about five minutes, then craps out. I tried the "Add New Device" option, and it never recognizes it. I don't have a CF card reader. Any ideas? I may put the card in my other recorder and try it (PMD66), but I have to wait til Tuesday, since my USB cable is at work. :(

How did you connect it? After the computer was on, if so was the R-1 on or off when you plugged it in? If not try having the R1 powered on and connected to the computer when you boot it.

Haven't had a problem like this since my W98 or 2K&JB3 days. No pattern to how the comp would/not recognize the JB3. It was trial and error on what connection order worked and extremely frustrating but the comp eventually always recognized the JB3.

You mention the PMD66 connects by USB, how does the R1 connect? I'm not familiar with the device so don't know.

I followed the manual, which said turn it on, then connect it. I tried both ways, and nothing. I ended up putting the card in my PMD660 and connecting it. I got the file off no problem. I think I may get a card reader for future use.

Try it with a different CF card. I have an R1 that will work with 3 different cf cards but only connect to the computer with 1 of them.
