I like to use my DPA 4060s with a DIY Jecklin disk I made a few years ago.  With the small form factor of the lav mics and the fine magnet wire I used for the mic mounts, the whole set up isn't as "line of sight blocking" as it might be with full size mics and mounts.  (At least when you are looking in the same direction as the disk)  ;D

By employing the L/R time differences of a head spaced pair along with the L/R level differences at mid-high frequencies due to the baffling of the disk, you get a recording with good imaging over both headphones and speakers.  The omnis have good response down at low freqs, however, as others have noted, you don't get much spaciousness at very low frequencies since the spacing is small and the baffle doesn't baffle at low freqs.  Similar to Blumlein, sounds arriving from behind the Jecklin disk are not rejected.  The baffle gives the omnis some L/R directionality but it is symmetric from front to back.

Attached are a couple pics of my Jecklin disk minus the DPA mics.

Nice.  I've never seen a DIY one with the official measuring twine and beads before.

In addition to baffles, there are also small spheres and flat plates which can be attached to omni capsules to introduce additional directionality and change response in the upper frequency range.  Those things can also be useful as ways of reducing the spacing between mics while retaining enough seperation.

Here's a photo of some DIY spheres I made up for 4060s.  The cheap SM58 windscreen fits over the entire ball-
