SONY PCM-M10 Formatting microSDHC card

I just purchased a SanDisk 16 GB microSDHC card to install in my Sony PCM-M10. I have some recorded tracks on the Sony's built in memory that I'd like to keep on the recorder. I'm concerned about accidentally erasing them when I format the new SanDisk card.

When installing and formatting the new card, what's the proper procedure to insure I don't erase the existing tracks? I read the instruction book, but it's a bit vague on this. Just double checking, to make sure I do the right thing since it's my first time.

Make sure the Memory is set to the SD card and then when you format, it will identify you are formatting the card and not the internal memory.  Once you do it, it is obvious.

also, if you have any concern about losing the info in the m10's internal memory, back it up to a computer before performing any formatting

Okay, so I'm back to my house and can look at my M10

1.  Menu > Memory > Memory Card (instead of Built-In Memory)
2.  Detail Menu > Format - It will display "Memory Card Delete All Data?" > Execute

I backed up to my hard drive first, then followed the advise given here.
Everything worked out fine.

Easy, I know...but thought I'd still ask, as I didn't want to take any chances on screwing up.

By the way, I had a 16GB card with other files on it that I stuck in the PCM-M10. It set up its usual folder structure in the remaining space, without touching the other stuff, and it records fine. So you don't need to go through the menu to format unless you want to empty the card.
