AT853 Capsule "GRID" question
« on: October 07, 2013, 04:04:34 PM »
hi there,
I just noticed (as you can see from the picture posted below) that one of my AT853 cardioid capsules has a "grid" on the top while the other one has not. my hypers capsule both have that grid.

So the questions are:

1 - is it because the capsules have been produced in different years/lots and are different revisions of the capsules?
2 - would the "missing grid" capsule suffer some issues (thinking about wind noise or electrical shielding?
3 - am I just paranoid?  ;D

That is a shield for reduced interference. I say reduced, but every bit helps. I use a finer mesh on all my mics. It also acts as a way of protecting the diaphragm. There is a mic manufacture around that makes stealth mics that has a diaphragm that is 100 % exposed and could easily be damaged. I will not mention the name. But my 4.7k mod works well with these mics too.

thanks for the answer. so is it a real problem or I shouldn't worry too much about it?
