Topic: Need some DIY mic mount inspiration

I'm going to give AT933s a go on my drum toms (limited testing came out pretty good for a home hobby set up).  I'm trying to think of a way to build or repurpose an existing gadget to create something like this:

I just don't want to spend 6x $50 to mount those suckers.  Any ideas from the ts.com brain trust?

I've attached a picture of someone else's kit from Google images to show what I would be mounting to (Gretsch Renown Maple).

You are going to use 3 sets of AT933s on the kit?I have an idea that will be very cheap if your in no hurry ill test it out on my Pearl Masters kit and let you know.Are you planning on using this for kick,snare,hats,overheads also?I see some HHX in your pic....nice

I don't think the AT mount is going to stay attached to a drum kit for very long.  You need something with a more mechanical attachment or mount your mics on a mic stand and position the mic to the drumkit accordingly.

Yep.  I purchased 6 or 3 pair.  I'm just going to use them on Toms, maybe snare.  I use my MC930s for overheads and a Audix D6 for kick.  I have full set of Audix i5's and one SM57.  I just thought at the price of the AT's, it might be worth giving them a shot...they are so small.  I have quickly tested them with Naiant PFAs and my R44, and they sounded pretty good.  Now, I"m searching for cheap mounts.  BTW, that's not my kit in the pic.  Same drums, and I do have one HHX in the mix, but I was too lazy to go take a pic...that is from google images.

I'm a little concerned about that too.  I have mounts for the Audix i5, which constantly need to be adjusted due to the weight of the mics and vibration of the kit.  You just gave me an idea, though.  I might be able to repurpose those.  The ATs weigh next to nothing.  These are them:

Flexible mount would tend to bend in that application one would think.

For the price of drum mic mounts, it would seem cheaper and better to just buy cheap boom mic stands.  At least then the mics wouldn't be so directly affected by vibrations from playing the drums.

Booms are solid, for sure, but I'm looking to make the footprint small...at least on toms.  I actually clamp an boom arm on my taping mic stand for OH mic's  .  It's more solid than any stand you could walk in and buy at guitar center.
