mic clip or shock mount
« on: January 28, 2015, 08:00:45 AM »
hi all,

Have a pair of mics that are 19mm (.75 inch diameter) and mic length is 64 MM - 2.5 inches that I need a mic clip or shock mount will mount to a 5/8-27 Threads.
The set up has to be light weight...Like the clip to not be bigger then 2 inches.

Checked many sites yesterday online for about an hour and found some that are close to what I want. I want a tight fit though not tight enough it might scratch the mic.

======================================================================
1) Found these:
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/901012-REG/windtech_sp_20cm_shock_mount_for.html

Not sure if they are too tight to get in easily.

======================================================================
2) Thought about the rycote replacement mounts though not sure these would hold a 2.5 inch long mic.

http://www.rycote.com/products/shock-mounts-suspension/invision-broadcast-film/invision-inv-6/

A lot of the mic clips do not say how long they are.

Anyone have suggestions.

Thanks.

The Rycote InVision are by far the better shocks that you linked, but I have used and still own the Windtech shock that you linked above, and it does the job for the price. I ONLY use the Windtech clamp when I run configs other than my DINa/DIN/NOS/ORTF bars and when I need to run PAS ;) I use the Windtech with my NBob SGC clips and my vark bar, because it has a tighter grip with the base of the vark bar, and I think its meant for 19mm mics, because like I said, it has a much tighter grip on the base of my vark bar, versus my Schoeps a20s shocks, which are meant for 20mm mics/mounts!

I'm in the process of upgrading my a20s shocks to the Rycote InVision 6 shocks. Going to probably buy [1] InVision 6 here really soon and see how I like it (which I'm SURE that I will). Id buy [2] at the same time, but I want to see how they fit in my SMALL LowePro bags and work with the KCY cabling before I go full in and get a second one ;) Not to mention, the InVision 6 will have a better grip on my vark bars and the DIY PAS bar that I'm in the process of making ;) So basically, the Windtech and Schoeps a20s shocks will be collecting dust real soon lol ;) 8) So instead of buying the $20 Windtech shock, and then upgrading to the Rycote InV anyway, IMO you should just save up and buy the InV right off the bat ;) 8)

EDIT: Also, they make a bunch of different InVision shocks, and I'm sure there is one that would hold your small 2.5" mics ;) I think the InV 3 is just a smaller, and not quite as stiff InV 6, which may work out for your smaller size mics. I'm just using the InV to hold my active bars, since I only run actives, so I'm not sure which InV model you'd want?

It might help us if you told us exactly what mics you're running? ;)

Thanks Bean.

Looking at this one as you suggested:
http://www.rycote.com/products/shock-mounts-suspension/invision-broadcast-film/invision-inv-6/

===========================================================
Product description:

Suitable for the Audix M1280, M-Audio Pulsar II and Sennheiser e906, amongst others.

Fitted with:
- 2 x 19-25mm universal clips, with Standard (70mm wide) Lyre
- Standard bar with 25mm (1") centres
- Maximum microphone length 120mm

An InVision set contains two Lyre, an appropriate length mounting bar, and in some cases, a reducing sleeve (InVision INV-4). The Lyre suspension webs of our InVision come in two sizes: - InVision Lyre width: 43 mm - Standard Lyre width: 70 mm Mounting bars come in two sizes: - Standard length: 25 mm - Large length: 70 mm The reducing sleeve allows for smaller microphones (e.g. Schoeps CCM series) to be held by the Lyre.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

The above states:
"- Standard bar with 25mm (1") centres"

If I understand that correctly it means the 2 clips are spaced one inch apart - Is that correct?

Does it come with the mount to the mic stand for 5/8 27 thread? Or do I have to buy that seperately?

Thanks.

Yes

Yes - the InVision mounts come complete with the adaptor to the horrible US 5/8" thread.

Thanks Bean and john.

Purchased 2 of the Rycote InVision 6 shocks. Though they said with the snow storm on the east coast it may take longer then normal to get here.

^^^ I think I am going to get a pair of these too. Looks like they would be perfect for the DPAs with the compact bodies...

John, do you know a good European source for these? Never mind! I just found them at Thomann...

They'll work just fine with the compact bodies.  I successfully used them with a set of DPA 4021's which are even smaller.

I can't praise the InVision line enough.  I'll never use another shock mount if I can help it.

^^^  Thanks!  Just the type of testimonial I was looking for...

I just ordered a pair from Thomann, a large German online music supply company, and they were about $10 cheaper (per shock) than B&H.  That's pretty rare!
