MBHO> Mini-Me or MC012> Mini-Me
« on: May 03, 2004, 08:24:36 PM »
I have an opportunity to get a Mini-Me at a good price. My current mics are the Josephson/MBHO's and the Oktava MC012's. I don't currently have any recordings with any of these combinations.

Does anyone see any problems with this set-up?

My thinking is... if I get the Mini-Me I can eventually get microphones that match better in the future if these combinations aren't the best.

I don't know if I'd state it quite so strongly, but yeah - I don't see the Oktava > MMe combo as especially complimentary.

MBHO > MMe on the other hand, yeah - the MBHOs are a little thin/bright (not a bad thing, necessarily) and I think would benefit from the warmth and color of the MMe.

I have a good buddy who runs 603a/200>mme, I have some great tapes from him. In fact, has yet to pull a bad one, fob or ts. The mbhos really benefit from the slightly tubby low end of the mme, run mic in. The nice mbho high end comes through. good combo.

i have taped a few shows 603/ka200n > mme and i really like this combination.  however, last week i ran the mp-2 in front of the minime and i think it sounds even better than straight mme.  i can give you a login to my server if you want to check out some samples.  PM me if you are interested.

while the minime sounds okay run as a standalone box it really shines when you throw a pre in front and run line in.

I have run the mp-2 and MBHO's before, though not with a mini-me (ran the mini with my schoeps), I didn't much care for the way the bottom end sounded with the mp-2 and I would think the mini-me would just make it even more tubby...but then again, I could be wrong.
