if not going for DAT, today, i would go for a 'nice' MD.  doesn't jb3 need a co2 for digi?     remember, some of us had to play with our decks every 40 minutes or so.   i taped next to a guy at springfest who still taped onto analog

I got one last week that came in under 200$(including the 50$ rebate) and it works great when running from a source with an optical out ad1000, ua-5, or ad-20. Are we allowed to post retailer links here?

if your looking into a sony md, check out the sony mz-n707.  you can adjust levels on the fly without stopping the recording (like the older sonys), it has digi in (optical) and it is not too expensive (<$180).
