Looking for a new stand, need some advice
« on: May 19, 2004, 09:39:38 PM »
Right now I have the Bogen 17' stand, and it's just huge.  I never need to go that high so it's basically a waste.  I want to put it up for sale and get a smaller stand.  I'm thinking 13' max would be all I need.  I looked up the stands on Ebay that were recommended and I thought they would worked.  However last night I saw one in person and it's even bigger than my Bogen!

So anyone have suggestions for a smaller stand?  I want something sturdy as I often have people clamped on.  Don't need to worry about "stealth" either.

i just run the bogen 13 ft stand. works well pretty damn sturdy, but if i had a few clamps i'd like to have a bigger base.  but since i don't have to worry much about it no big deal.

I run this stand, Manfrotto a630b, with the tl's, and have had the tl's and ew's on it several times. It maxes out at about 10' though. A good solid stand! you will need a spigot / spud > thread adaptor off the top though.

I recently got this same stand and recommend it highly. :)

I have the Bogen 3364B 13' stand, you'll love it!  Very sturdy, and you can collapse the legs some to gain height/obtain a smaller footprint and it's still pretty sturdy.

John, I had the same problem and ended up keeping the 17 ft'er even though I will never go that high because

(1) I never open the legs up for arena shows, and it is small enough in diameter to slide the compacted stand in between two seats and duct tape it to the seats

(2) With the legs not open, the bottom is completely flat, some of the stands have the middle piece sticking farther down than the rest of it.

While I am sure that other stands meet these types of requirements as well...a few of the bogens I have seen in the field do not.  For this reason, I kept the 17 ft'er for amps and arenas (knowing I will never go that high) and bought a mini bogen for the local clubs.
