I'm pretty sure the sample dropping was for digital input tests.  Most people here don't see analog input recorders as significant.

yeah, just make sure you get a battery box with a High-Pass filter

Would the Bass rolloff work equally well with loud and quiet material through the line-in?  I understand it's not switchable.

Bass rolloff won't likely work at all through line in due to input impedance.
KM 184 > V2 > R4
