Comparing two sources
« on: July 28, 2004, 12:50:22 PM »
I and a taping acquaintance taped a bunch of festival stuff this month.  He runs Schoeps CCM4, I ran Audix 1290.  I'm probably going to get a couple of shows from him to do a comparison, but he ran DFC, I ran about 6' ROC.  We both ran ORTF.  Would any difference I hear be the result of the mics, or location?  I'm not sure why I'm even asking, since Schoeps are way out of my price range, but I'm still curious how much better his tapes might sound.  Thanks.

his tape probably has a more balanced image but depending on the other gear both of you ran it will be hard to tell who's tapes might sound better given all the different circumstances of the situation (PA sound, location, gear, etc.)

so i guess you won't know until you listen.  I've heard a Oktava MK012 tape that smoked the schoeps tape from the same show and the schoeps were even FOB while the oktavas were in the section. it's a big giant crapshoot this game is ;)
