Topic: noise?

All of my recordings I did with the Mk4 -> cmc6 -> SD MixPre -> M1 come out with an echoe sound throughout the whole tapes.  I did the recording NOS on the last try, but the last time I did the recording ORTF, it came out the same.  I have my levels set maxing out at +4 on the mixpre, and coming just to -4 -2 on the m1, pretty good I think?  On the mixpre, it has a spot for slate to 1kz but it is left in the middle, set to 48v, and set in the middle of 160 to whatever the other setting goes to.  Any ideas??

Ok, I just read the 160 is a bass-roll off switch.  Meaning I'll check into recording with that on and off in the future.  Any one out there have this mixpre?  Help appreciative..... Jesse

I just remembered that I was at a wrong distance from the stage, being I was 12' and the speakers were actually 24' apart across the stage from each other.  This meaning I should have been 24' from each speaker, but I'm still lost as to why the tapes came out with echoes throughout the tapes.  I was told from masterpieceav the tapes should have had the echoes in the 1st 2 recordings made being I was only 3' from the back wall, the room actually too small (20' by 10', with the celing only 8' high) causing all recordings horrible.  But the last recording at NOS was recorded at the State Theatre in Starkville, MS, actually a good venue to do recordings.  Still lost, if anyone has any tips thanks so much.... do you have custom made cables?  if so, check the phase of your recording in a wave editor. perhaps one channel is inverted. inverted channel would create a very hollow sounding result.

What are your settings on the M1:  Mic-in or line-in?  Manual or auto-levels?  What sample rate?  FWIW, I prefer the MixPre with no bass rolloff, unless the bass little rumbles your innards to the point it's almost uncomfortable.

The M1 is set to manual, line-in, 48k.  The cables ain't custom, but I forget the name on them.  I would look and let you know but I'm not at home.  I have all of the levels set where the people I purchased from tell me to put them but still bad sound.  I was thinking something came to me messed up but that never happens I don't think.  I don't know really?

what kind of place is this that you are recording in? I find indoors that the mk4's don't sound all the good. I prefer the mk41's in doors, way more off axis attenuation, less chatter, way less room noise. If the rooms you are in sound like crap, which most do, don't run NOS with the mk4's, run them DIN....but if most of what you are doing is indoors, trade the mk4's in for some mk41's, but I also suspect you are having other issues. Post some samples so others can help.
