newbie Stealth setup questions
« on: August 10, 2004, 04:13:51 PM »
I've been successfull in 1 recording thus far,1 for 1, I'm trying to get some better mics together, while still being stealthy. Currently I have the sound pro in ear binaurals, slimline battery module from sp into a jb3. It seemed to work well, the show wasn't extremely loud, but I noticed that they dont handle the high spl's that well. I am looking for a similar mic solution, I was even looking at the headphone mics that SP sells, anyone have expierence with them? Any help, recommendations or feedback is appreciated. Thanks!!

I personally wouldn't - why would a headphone draw less attention than tiny stereo mics?

In a darkened venue, you're pretty likely to get away with running something like the SPCMC2s.

I can see stealth mics in headphones working at an outside festivle or something similar. Seems suspicious to me to bring them into a venue where you paid good money for a ticket. Plus you'd have to hang them around your neck and I'm guessing with omni mics inside. Get the mics up higher. Headphone idea is a good one but seems to have limitations. I would use them outside especially on a windy day in stealth mode.

I would try and save some serious loot and try to upgrade your mics and go to an active cable set up.  I used the soud professionals cmc-8 audio technicat models 4 or 5 times, twice with STP, and none of the recodings came out even remotely decent.  The second time with STP I went through a Zefiro Inbox and I still had a lot of distortion due to how loud the show was.  I use and active cable set up from JK Labs with AKG caps now.  Its night and day.  That is a hell of a lot of loot to drop and I try not and think about that, but you get what you pay for.  That's just my opinion and I'm sure plenty of people have had different results so take this for what it is.
