Archive.org upload failures
« on: September 11, 2004, 12:05:53 PM »
Ok - not really a newbie to the FTP world, but for some reason, the archive is not letting me upload shows to the archive... I can log into it but I can't upload anything.

Has anyone had this problem?  Just curious if there is a fix.

Thanks.

I've had the same problem before.  They usually have it cleaned off within a day or so.

It pisses me off to no end that some shows I upload and import will randomly make MP3's available.

So after you import, be sure to check the show details page and make sure it didn't convert to lossy formats.

Very very true, I don't know why they even have that on there? Maybe for samples for other tapers to refer to? They should just have ONE 1 minute mp3 sample, not the whole show available in fuckin 64 kpbs lossy mp3's.

in the archive's defense, i kinda like the streaming mp3s they have available cuz it means i don't have to download a whole show just to listen to it at work.  i'm 100% lossless all the way, but sometimes the streaming mp3s do have their place.

Because nothing says "I have lots of money and am sort of confused as to how to spend it" like Bose.

It's not random...there's a checkbox you click on import if you don't want lossy derivatives made. I've got dozens and dozens of shows up and none have had that problem.

Oh, I double and triple check to make sure that box is checked.  It still happens from time to time, and I know I'm not the only one.

Hmph. Bizarre. I actually had it happen once because I had my browser crash on me in mid-import, but seriously, 90 some-odd shows and no random lossiness. :)
