How to enhance sound of audience recording in SoundForge 6.0?
« on: November 27, 2004, 06:54:05 PM »
First of all, I'm new around here, so I hope I'm not doing anything wrong by opening a new topic... Sorry if I did!

I've found some nice, but old audience recordings I did a couple of years ago. The show is really good, but the sound is terrible. It has that typical 'audience recording sound', and pretty heavy I might add! I've managed to reduce the audience noise a bit without affecting the quality of the recording too much, but I'd like to do something about the sound as well. I'm using SoundForge 6.0. Could anyone please be kind enough to tell me what would be a good approach to improve the sound?

TIA!!
Martijn

To determine if/how to improve the sound, it would help to first know:  with what characteristics of the recording are you unhappy?
Milab VM-44 Links > Fostex FR-2LE or
Naiant IPA (tinybox format) > Roland R-05

Uhm, well... that's kinda hard to say actually. I mean, I know what it is that I don't like, but don't know how to describe it. The recording sounds muffled and a bit distant, because the microphone was placed in an open, insulated camera-bag. I hope that helps...

well, you have got to understand, most things cannot be done in post production, if your mic picked up crap, then most likely your left w/ crap

i mean levels a lil too high/low can be fixed, minor stuff like setting a hpf or something, but if the recording isnt that good to begin w/, its hard to make it stellar, in fact, its alsmot impossible
