Newb question...
« on: November 21, 2004, 04:28:56 AM »
would powered mics like Sony ECM-MS907 work with a line in?

Or do I need any preamps or battery box. Thanks.

I don't need superb quality though and am on a budget.

yes

what are you using to record with, if its a MD you'll be fine but the mic alone wont be a strong enough signal for a JB3
I'll have a bloody mary, a steak sandwich and...a steak sandwhich.

Hey guys,

I´m planning to film some concerts within the next couple of month and will use a Canon MiniDV camcorder. I consider buying the Sony ecm-ms907 as an external mic for the camcorder. Do you think it is a good mic to get a decent audio track. It is pretty cheap but unfortunately i can´t spend much more money. And will it be useful for the camcorder anyway? I read here at the forum that for digital camcorders you can use any mics that okay for digital audio recording? And do u need a preamp for the mic or can I plug it straight into the cam.

Sorry for askin maybe stupid questions but I´m new to taping. The Mars Volta show next year will be my first real challenge.

Thanks for your help.

i used to have a 908 which is pretty much the same just with a different mount and a shorter cable that i used for video. if your looking for video only, id recommend going with that one, ecm-ms908c. can be found on ebay for 80. has a cold shoe mount. decent sound at best but it works.

I have the 907 but only use it to record my son's baby talk.  It will not generate a strong enough signal for line-in on a minidisc.  At least it doesn't for my MD, Sony MZ-R909.  You will defintiely want a battery box and probably a pream if you're going to record in high SPL situations.  As far as it's usefulness for a camcorder, it seems fine for conversation so perhaps.  My camcorder only has the built-in mic and no external jack.
