hey,
so i think i might like to try some omni recordings with like a 35ft spread. this means i'll have to get let 100 ft cables right? do i just point the mic's at the stacks? how high should i go if i'm taping with omnis? if anyone knows any little tips and tricks please let me know. thanks a million!

To go 35 feet, you'd need to go out from center 17.5ft and then up 9 or so. You'd need 2 30ft cables so you will have a bit of slack.
I've done this big a spread, but only outdoors (where would you do it indoors anyway) and WAY back from the stacks. If you are at a festival, or on the lawn at your local shed go for it, otherwise a smaller spread is all you need.
You may not notice a change if you angle the omni's, but I'd point them straight ahead to start. Even though the pick-up pattern is omni, the body of the mic will interfere somewhat.
Not sure if the torrents are active, but there are 2 nights of The Dead/Warren Haynes from this past summer on bt.etree recorded wide split omni.
