Static and drop outs...what happened???

Looking for some ideas here...
Trying to figure out what went wrong with this recording during the first set last night (Ratdog). It was just riddled with dropouts and static, second set seemed fine (well, at least to my ears).
The only thing I did as I recalled, was unplug the mic XLR's into the UA-5 and plugged them back in. I was basically just rearranging the cords between sets. They seemed like they were fully connected the entire time. Anyone have ideas on what could have gone wrong? And how does the second set sound? Your not hearing any static are you? Thanks for any help. Files are approx 2mb.
Sample from set with the static and drop outs:

possibly during the first set the xlr cables were not securely connected, I know blue kiwi cables have this problem perpetually. If not check the optical cable connection, thats gotten me a few times.

I hear a tick at :22 in the
second
sample...and again at 1:25 just before the balloon pops...
So the problem may still be happening in set 2...just not as obvious...
It sounds like a digital problem...not analog.
