when my D8 *does* die (hopefully not soon) should I take it to paul at pro-digital? is it worth the money. I just want to know that if I do send the $75 ( I think) is it worth it and will my DAT run like brand new? anyone ever sent it and are you happy of the results and have you had any problems. another question is I know he does realignments and such but will he put new heads in etc? thanks for helping me with the question in advance guys!

Paul is a god within this scene

have no fears, if your deck is able to be serviced he's the guy to send it to
I’ve had a few weird experiences and a few close brushes with total weirdness of one sort or another, but nothing that’s really freaked me out or made me feel too awful about it. - Jerry Garcia

don't get me wrong. I have herd paul does some awesome jobs with his refurb jobs but I want to know if the job he does it makes the deck feel brand new and it takes just as long for the heads to wear out as the time you opened the box. ( not wear but regular recording and playback to the heads I hope you get what I am saying)

if it's a head replacement then yeah, it's like having a brand new deck

Paul serviced a D100 of mine once a few years ago and I'm going to send him a dtc690 one of these days.  When I decided the dtc690 was worth saving there was no one else I even considered.

$75 dollars is for a tune up (cleaning, alignment, lube, etc) and it is well worth it.  They check everything and can tell you about how much life is remaining because they will do an error test.  If they recieve the deck and they determine that it isn't worth doing the work, they will call you and tell you before doing any work for which you would be charged.  Just call and talk to Paul and ask him about your concerns.  Everyone there has been really cool to me.

Running your deck until it breaks without having it serviced is like choosing to not change the oil in your car until the engine starts having problems.   By then you've done more damage than was neccessary.

Paul will take the time out to talk to you and discuss any and all problems with your deck, what can be done to fix them, estimated costs, and help you decide if it is worth it.  When I had DAT's (a D8 and a Casio DA7) I had him service them once a year every year (right before summer festival season)  I never had any problems with them, including the infamous D8 misload.  Never.  I really attribute that to Paul keeping my decks in A1 shape. The customer service at PD is the tops.

Ditto here

He made a several year old DAP1 (with a screwed up front panel, cracked transport, etc.) run like brand new.

Great service, great *customer* service...I'd 100% recommend them to anyone.
