Greetings all. I was referred to this board by someone while asking about taping. I'm looking to set something up, however, I'm pretty clueless about this stuff.
What I want to do is be able to record both live performances and practices from my band. We're a four piece: two guitars, drums, and bass.
What I currently have in mind is using an Edirol UA25 to record to a laptop. I've seen many good things about the UA-25 on this board, however I've also read that there are versions of this unit with mods that help the sound quality. What are these mods and how would I get them?
Power to the laptop and UA25 will not be a problem.
I'm hoping to be able to get out of this with $100 mics. Can you get quality recordings with mics in this price range? I've been looking at the Marshal MXL2006 or the M-Audio Nova. Any advice on this? Are there better mics in this price range?
The other option I was thinking about was not getting the UA25 and springing for a couple of more expensive mics to use with an ancient analog 4-track recorder we have, and ultimately moving up to a digital 4-track. This way we could nab a soundboard mix along with the audience mix. Thoughts on this?
Any help would be extremely appreciated.
Thanks.
