Inexpensive vocal/instrument mic suggestions?
« on: September 08, 2005, 06:11:04 PM »
Have a friend who is looking to get something he can use for vocals & sometimes instruments in his  home studio just for fun.   Somewhere in the $100 range, obviously nothing too fancy.   Any help is appreciated.  Thanks, Chris

my band uses a sm57 and its been dropped, kicked, exposed to extreme hot/cold temp and it still runs like a champ.  i would totally recommend it

I didn't even read the other suggestion but the Octava is a much richer and better mic than the Shure. Buy the Shure if sound is secondary to using it as a hammer but if sound matters buy the Octava. These mics are worth much more than the $69 they are going for and sound closer to a $700.00 - $1200 mic. The are excellent for vocals and cabs and also sound fantastic on horns.

MC012 being a condensor, I still say sm57. Condensor needs phantom power and are more delicate. Though those oktavas are pretty tough.

I was talking about the MK319's not the 012's. Being phantom powered should not be an issue at all. Tell what board today doesn't supply 48 volt phantom powering?

here are a bunch of reviews for the mk319.  seem to be pretty good across the board except for a few naysayers, but there are alway a few of those.

The link seems to be the review for the Beringer mic not Octava.
