Header size in CDWav error/question.
« on: September 17, 2005, 12:05:25 PM »
Hey guys.... I'm kinda new to CDWav (always used Sound Forge) - and I got a question.   I taped some stuff last night on an NJB3 (44.1khz).  Transfered it over using Creative Playcenter.  Changed the name of the wav file to my naming convention.  When I open the file in CDWav, I get the following question:

"File header reports a size that is different than the system reports.  Do you want to adjust the size?  (Yes to override the header, No to trust header, Cancel to abort)

Anyone else seen this?  If so, which is the smart/correct answer?

For stuff that I worked on this morning, I answered "Yes" - and overrode the header.  When I go to open the same file again, I get the question again, so it apparently doesn't do anything to the file to answer yes.

Thanks in advance guys.

Tickets are dead to me.  Except the ones I have, don't have, and lost.  Not to mention the ones you have, don't have, and lost.   And the ones that other dude has, doesn't have, and lost.  Let me know if you need some tickets, I'm happy to oblige.

From the (ahem!) JB3 FAQ:

Quote
[380] Opening JB3-recorded WAV:  "File header reports a size that is different than the system reports..."?!?

When opening JB3-recorded WAVs in CD-Wave, what's with the message:  "File header reports a size that is different than the system reports.  Do you want to adjust the size?  (Yes to override header, No to trust header, Cancel to abort)"

The JB3 appears to add 8 bytes of "junk" at the end of some WAV files recorded onto the JB3.  At any rate, if prompted with this message by CD-Wave, it doesn't matter whether you select Yes or No, CD-Wave strips the "junk" 8 bytes out of the file in either case.  All other commonly used taper programs - Cool Edit, Wavelab, Soundforge, etc. - seem to strip the junk bytes out but don't present a message to the user.  Bottom line:  don't sweat it!

Thanks bud.... I knew after I posted it that it was probably here somewhere.   As always, Skalinder hooks a brotha up.  Thanks again.
