how to stealth with a pair of audix m1290s and an MT2496
« on: January 05, 2006, 05:18:04 PM »
i know that these mics could definitely be used for stealth, but what sort of phantom power/preamp should be used (that could be crotched) to hook up to the microtrack?  using the microtracks phantom power is not sufficient as the micros require A FULL 48V of phantom power.

any ideas would be appreciated.

Could use a PS-2 if you've got the money.  It's small enough to be crotched.

The 1290's work fine @ 30v at least I have had no problem.

So the MT will power the 1290s?

I was wondering if it would.  How does this combo sound?   I was thinking of picking up a MT for stealth purposes.

A Sound Decives MP2 would probably pair up nicely with the 1290s and the MT.

i have used my MT with the audix 1290's with phantom and the PS-2 and get the same sound results. With the MT Phantom i have only gotten about 2.5 hours for recording before needing to recharge the MT. Using the ps-2 i have gotten twice the recording time before needing to replace the 9v battery in the PS-2 and or recharge the MT.

i have been using the Phantom power engaged only in high stealth locations. Otherwise the PS-2 is on the belt to power the mics.

BTW i got a Robert Earl Keen show the other day in a spot; that has been a dead spot for sound using CSB>D8 in this venue, with outstanding results.

I have been turning flips over the MT>1290 combo sense that show. I'll be using the same combo this evening for Charley Sexton.

the m1290's really have much fuller sound than your traditional stealth mics.  they are great for everything I've needed to do so far, and I will hopefully be stealthing soon.  I need to get a tiny bat pack for the MT and some shorter cables for the mic and I think I'm set.  thanks for the advice everybody.
