they only go to 50hz,....

and you run out of hearing at 38=>40hz, so there really isn't much lacking there.
The 4022's only go to 40hz, so you really aren't lacking all that much.
A nice eq boost for a fat lucious bass is around 110hz->140hz, so you still have plenty to work with, or be aware of.

I know what you're saying, but I just don't get that bass. Ran side by side with a buddy last week who was using SP C-4s. Both of us ran  DIN with UA-5s into JB3 (although he's got the w-mod UA-5). He had much fatter bass levels and a bit more ambient crowd noise than me. I'm beginning to think it has more to do with the sound field of the Superlux cards perhaps being more directional, almost hypercards, compared to other mics. I typically run DIN in smaller clubs where the bass isn't strong in the PAs. And I think the mic sound field isn't strong enough to pick up the bass amp on the stage. The only recording I can recall getting solid bass levels from the Superlux's was an outdoor show where I was running 70 feet back.

Otherwise, I've been really happy with the Superlux's, which as lower end mics have given me some fine recordings and produce nice crisp sounds on acoustic instruments. But thanks to a pending smallish windfall I'm starting to explore some better mics - maybe  KM-184s. Even if I do, I expect to keep the Superlux's for certain taping applications.
