Mic's for Micro Track
« on: January 27, 2006, 12:21:42 PM »
Hello, Last night a recorded a jam using a cheap Kareoke Mic in the 1/8' input using adapter because the T mic's peaked to easily. It worked ok no peaking but only got 1 channel. I want to upgrade to a better mic or mic's to utilize the 1/4" input for a better recording. But I don't want the peaking and my fear of buy the wrong mic's or mic is a underline fear. I don't want to have to return them. Ant surgestions Thanks

Budget?
Open or stealth recording?
When you say "jam", is it a band playing through a PA, or unplugged, or...?

No problem, and no rush.  Still need these two questions addressed before anyone can provide meaningful feedback:

Budget?
Open or stealth recording?

Don't mean to be stupid but what is OPEN and what is Stealth. If stealth is with no one knowing that I'M recording  then the answer is Open. I can place the Mic in the open. My biggest problem is the bass amp peaking the MT. So I hope this helps  please don't break my wallet. $200 or less if that is possible. Thanks

Stealth is noone knowing you record, so your assumption was correct. Sorry I can't help you with your main question though, I am new here.

for 200 bucks i'd start checking the yard sale section for some used mics. maybe an at825 or something similar?

or this:  http://taperssection.com/index.php?topic=58437.0   200 bucks for a pair of 853's.
http://taperssection.com/index.php?topic=58454.0   300 bucks O.B.O for a pair of SP C4s.

Both good entry level mics.

Has anyone verified that the C4's will work with the MT's 30v phantom power?
The specs on their website say that they require 48v +/-4V.

Just curious because this is one of the reasons I shyed away from them.  I normally
run a UA-5 in front of my MT but I'd like the option of using the the MT standalone.

Great point! The spec sheet on the C4's says 48v +/- 4v, so technically it wouldn't work.  Good catch, Rodeen.  I didn't think about that.   +T

What about some AT853rx?  Power requirements are 9v-52v, so the MT's 30v's would work great.
