This might sound crazy, but I was wondering if I could use my stealth AT943 mics as clip-ons to directly mic brass instruments. I'd probably need to mod my clip (to make it softer, non-scratching), but my guess is that it might sound amazing in this capacity as long as I'm going XLR/Phantom to handle the SPLs. Anyone ever do this?
AT sells a product, the ATM35 which is a regular AT853 and a phantom/battery box. It has a nice clip and a windscreen on it. The general consensus is that AT853 sounds slightly better, but AT943 should be fine. But make sure you run either phantom power or a 3 wire battery box (
). The levels are probably loud in there ...
