Schoeps KCY troubles...
« on: May 03, 2006, 09:50:38 AM »
Took my Kangol 4V > KCY 250/0 > KS1.7i > SXM2/LS2 set up out for a spin today in Ginza for Buffalo Daughter, noticed the levels were way off for the left channel.  When I got home, there was only a white noise roar and a little bit of the band comming thru the left side.  Switched just the KCY to the VMS02ib, and got the same thing, doesn't matter if I switch the caps around, it is always on the left side.  WTF?!  Are the transistors fried?  Where do I get this repaired?  It worked the other week at Sun Paulo/Razoku/Majestic Circus. Did I accidentally fry the KCY by pulling the plug from the VMS02ib while it was still on?  B/c I think I may have did that....it was a long nite.  HELP!

My guess is that the cable connection to the colette has been damaged. I suppose electrical damage is possible but I doubt it.

After the cable enters the colette, it anchors to a small plastic plate for strain relief. I keep spare parts around in case that happens. That part is fairly cheap. But the disassembly and repair are not easy.

I hear Jerry at Posthorn can do these simple repairs and he is where I get my parts.  Maybe there is a Schoeps repair facility in japan that can do light work?  But if they don't have parts Jerry may be the best way to go/fastest.

I don't think it would be the transistors since the sax doesn't make any use of them....
