sharp ms-md702 - batteries and charging
« on: May 08, 2006, 04:31:19 PM »
I just got a sharp ms-md702.  i'm a noob, and hoping to use it next week to record some jam sessions on a camping trip.  the guy who sold it said the battery would charge in the unit.  it works plugged in, but no light or display indicates charging.  it's been plugged in three hours and does nothing without the adaptor.  if anyone's had this unit, should it be charging, or do i need an external charger?  does anyone know how to get a AA adaptor for it, or how to make one?  i was hoping to use it for multiple nights of recording.  thanks!

Check this link out you will find all the answers to your questions here. If you’re going to do allot of recording with this I suggest you purchase extra batteries. I personally would not spend a great deal of money on that minidisc recorder as the prices of HIMD are so low, now as little as $150 for a new unit with mic input. This link has the user manual for this product and it also has the battery type these can be purchased on eBay and yes you might find someone who wants to sell an external battery pack for it there as well.

Check minidisc.org out they are the experts in mindisc they review all of them so if you do get a new unit they can help you make the right choice.

This is a link to an ebay sale of batteries that I am pretty sure will fit your md for $3.99 cheap Try buying a JB3 battery for that price good luck

The battery should charge in the unit. Are you sure the power supply is working?

If I remember correctly, there is an indicator on the lcd screen that it is charging.

You have to press the stop button (I think twice) to start the charging cycle.

i think the unit must be broken.  i pressed 'stop' twice, it indicates it's charging, then the little battery symbol disappears after about five seconds.  i'll see about returning it.  borrowing a jb3 now for next week from a friend, and looking into making an external battery pack from radio shack.
