Noob needs help..
« on: March 08, 2006, 09:24:07 PM »

here is the deal.  Finally, got all of my gear and am trying some test rounds.  Here is the deal new c4's>used stock UA5>laptop (for now of course)> JB3 (which I compiled of two one my GF dog ate, the other Harddrive problem).

I can't seem to get a signal into the JB3 and am looking for help--I've tried lots of options but am worried my line in may be shot. (everything else seems to be working although, I just hacked it yesterday).

Phantom power is on, sens is up on both mics. I've tried the clapping and snapping as suggested and it registers in the UA5, not the jb3.

Any thoughts?  I

Thanks

do you have RCA > 1/8 stereo - plug the rca's into the back of the ua-5 and the 1/8 into the jb3. make sure when you go to monitor recording that the input is set for Line-In when testing the line in. you can also use a 1/8 stereo > 1/8 stereo and run out of the headphone jack from anyother device and see if you can get a line signal.

what type of output are you running from the laptop - headphone jack? you check the output volume on your computer, make sure its turned up and not muted?

i take it you haven't digi-moded the ua-5 yet?

THanks.

OK so Im running RCA's (output from ua5)>>JB3 line in..set to line in recording.

All I have it the laptop doing is the usb to the ua5.

Nice.  That works.  THANKS.

I have a super janky optical cable--hopefully that is the problem with the optical in.  Is there a way to test that.

BTW, did you live by the food farm?

The harddrive on my first shit the bed so I picked up another one.  He's a german shepherd bout 7-8 months at the time --who we liberated from police dog lines.  TOtal sweetheart but, needs a job.  The box shows up and boom all over the yard.  FOrtunately, it looks like I rigged to two together.  SO far so good anyway.

Any ideas why the UA5 optical out>>JB3 line in isn't working.  Besides cable.  This is all brand new to me so it could be anything.

thanks in advance.

peace..jd

is the ua-5 digi-moded yet? i've never run the ua-5 > laptop > jb3 - so i don't know why the connection wouldn't work in that chain. did you select optical in on the jb3? perhaps it is your opti cable, is it new? you should be able to grab an optical cable and mini adapter at radio shack for around $20 tops or you can order some online with right angles built in http://www.mcminone.com/product.asp?catalog%5Fname=MCMProducts&product%5Fid=24%2D6475 which is much better, but you'd have to wait for it to ship to you.

BTW, did you live by the food farm?

No digi mod yet.--that is tomorrows project.   The cable is newer, not used much, from radioshack.  It's kinda weak but all I could find.  You can rotate between 3.5 and 1 connections on each end.  Seems like it bound to breakdown.  I'll bet a better cable and try further experiments following the mod.

thanks
