The superclamp can handle either.http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=productlist&A=details&Q=&sku=5350&is=REG&addedTroughType=search
Thanks for the info, +T. For the sake of clarification, I meant the bottom. So this will not attach to a 5/8" thread?

OK, I'm running this type of clamp:Does anyone know of an extension like the Bogen mentioned above that would work with this type of clamp? Or should I just bit the bullet and get a superclamp & the extension mentioned above?

I'll never do it again. Bite the bullet and get a SuperClamp.

(I suck at the internets.) If one doesn't have length restrictions, that looks like the way to go. I have a custom pole (paid about double) because I need the pole to shrink down enough to fit on my motorcycle, and 3' just isn't small enough.Yea it does kinda suck at that length. The nice thing about the Bogen model is that it has a Female 5/8 on the bottom, also already has a 3/8 threaded tip so all you need is a 3/8 > 5/8 adpater. Great to clamp onto a seat w/ a little superclam + accesorey magic or to boom out over/under a railing.
