dither/resampling individual files
« on: May 21, 2006, 02:06:35 PM »
New to the 24bit world. usually i have been dithering/resampling the entire 24bit file when making a 16/44 copy. i have a show that i have edited out the applause and audience discussion so that it's only music and have applied fades in/out of tracks for a smoother transition. is there any problem with individually dithering and resampling each file on its own from each editied 24/96 track?

There is no problem with that, though you may find a "batch process" more efficient.
you are using Wavelab, right?

my tools will leave me with SBE's in this case... but running shntool "fix" mode on the batch of 16/44 files cleans these up in a jiffy.

If you are using wavelab and use "CD markers" in the 24bit realm and dither individually or the whole file you do not encounter SBEs

yea... i should have just posted something like... "verify that you don't have SBEs"

or just kept my mouth shut... because i've boycotted redmond products, and therefore programs that just run on them, my tune processing is in a different universe than you guys.

yes, and check "quantitize to CD frame"

to fix SBEs if there are any, just run through Scott's program.

most people dont think SBEs are an issue, they are kind of this invisible thing that is never audible, but Scott's program will fix them.

i use SoundForge 8.0 - i figured there may be issues with SBEs so when I FLAC them I Align on SBE, would that be comprable to running SHNtool?

if it's the newest or newer version of frontend yes.  the older version didn't do it correctly.  not sure which version they got it worked out in.

Slow down there, hero.    I said "most people dont think they are an issue, and are never audible" ...Ill be sure to spell it out for you next time, since you seem to be trigger happy and prone to curse.
