I was wonder what kind of programs are good for recording from the soundboard onto a laptop? Any suggestions would be very helpful.

you can use any software program.  Getting it from the board to your laptop is the question.  Do you have any gear right now?  If so what, i'm sure we can help you out just need more info

I have all of the right connections as I have been recording on dat for several years but need to step up to the lap top.  I have several programs including sound forge, abode audition and vegas. Im have only used vegas up to this point for video and am unsure if I can do audio with if or would one of the other two be better for audio? Thank you for the help folks.

soundforge works great if you ask me.  Should be no problem there.  What type of interface do you have to go from the board to your laptop?

The Audacity or Soundforge will definitely work. As mentioned the interface can be the tricky part.

any of those that you list will do the recording, but you need a bit perfect sound card and that is not something that you would ever use for DAT recording.  Well, unless you are doing a DAT backup of the PC recording activities.
