I actually had both of these mics at the same time. I ran a comp once (both cards x/y 90) and it seemed to me that the LSD2 card pattern was tighter than the TL's. So I wouldn't shy away from the LSD2 just because it doesn't have the hypers.
Split omni can sound nice, but just about any situation you can do splits, you can probably do blumlein. It can sound just as good (or better) and is so easy to do with the LSD2.
If you plan on doing any fob-type recording, I would definitely go with the LSD2. It's remarkably low profile with the stacked caps.
I had both, I sold the TL's and kept the LSD2. They both sound great and compare favorably with the multi-thousand-dollar alternatives. I can point you to several shows where people favored my LSD2 recording to Schoeps, Neumanns, etc.
