At the present moment I running SP-CMC-2/CA-9100 (3 wire)/PMD660 and looking to upgrade on the mics.
What would be better?

The input of the community would be greatly appreciated!
I have not tried the CMC-9, but the 8's are going to sound pretty similar to what you've got now.
The main advantage is these are quite a bit smaller, and the 8's have interchangeable (*) caps.
But a little known fact is that you can put standard AT853 caps on your AT831s (the CMC-2's). I've done it!
So, if you want different caps, go for AT853 and try them on your 2's before spending more money.
If you want smaller stuff, 8's are probably the best option.
If you're looking for better sound, get DPA, Sennheiser MKE2, or something else.
