If this is true--and who knows, the person you spoke with may or may not be "in the know"--then that means there probably will not be official support for 4GB SD cards with the R-09.
Other than the formatting issue, which can be easily done on a computer, I don't see any benefits to 4GB support.
I said this before in an earlier thread, but if anything it could introduce problems - i.e. the 2GB split issue. I'd rather just keep things the way they are (the ability to record one long 4 hour track) than have this turn into the R1.
