Hello,

I hope that one of you will be able to help me find a solution to a very recent lost file issue with the MT 24/96.

     Here is what happened:

I'm running the latest firmware 1.4.3 and have recorded using this firmware without incident

I always freshly format the CF card before recording a new show

I was using a Kingston 4GB 45X CF card for recording - I have used this card numerous times without any lost file issues.

I started my recording @ 24/48, watched the record levels for the entire show, the MT appeared to be recording the entire show.  At approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes the band left the stage (Lou Reed) - Not knowing how long the encore might be I decided to save the file at that point.  I still showed approximately 25 minutes recording time left for that file, before reaching the 2GB file limit.

I hit the record button to stop the recording - The MT showed that is was writing/saving the file.  The file writing dialog finished without incident.  About 5 seconds after the first file was saved I started recording the 2nd file.  Everything appeared OK at this point.  The two song encore, 2nd file, lasted approximately 13 minutes.

I hit the record button again after the encore was complete - MT showed writing/saving the 2nd file.

After the saving/writing dialog finished for the 2nd file I waited about 20 seconds before I powered the MicroTracker off.  Again, all appeared well at this point.  I did not power the MT up again until the next morning.

When I powered the MicroTracker back on the following day I had one file showing instead of two!!

The first file is missing!!  Approx 1 hour & 30 mins at 24/48 is missing.  The second file is there, approx 13 mins at 24/48.

Needless to say I am VERY unhappy.  M-Audio could offer no help whatsoever other than to suggest that I run chkdsk on the card on my Windows XP machine.  I ran chkdsk and it found no file problems.

I have NOT tried writing anything to this card since the apparently failed recording session!!  Any suggestions on how I should proceed?  I'd really like to recover the first 1 hour and 30 minutes of this show...

thanks,

David

Any suggestions other than flinging the MicroTracker into the river or buying a new Compact Flash Card (I really like the MicroTracker for stealthing and I cannot think of anything that I possibly could have done wrong here!!)  I watched the whole show being recorded and saved to the cf card.

I have a SD722 on order from Cascade and I will certainly use it whenever possible in the future...

But in the meantime I would love to recover this missing file - I flew from Minnesota to New York to visit friends and record this show - I would hate to lose it!!

I have NOT done anything to the CF card other than run chkdsk on the card one time.

Any Help Would Be Greatly Appreciated!

I had a vaguely similar problem happen with my MT, but it was the encore that was (temporarily) lost.

The only thing I can suggest is to try some file recovery software.  I was able to recover my missing file with R-Studio and you can try it out and see if it can find the missing file before paying for it.

Shortly after buying R-Studio I found a slightly cheaper program that appeared to do the same thing but by then I'd recovered the file and re-used the card, and didn't keep any links - a search would throw-up some more options - and none of the free software I found was any good.

File recover works very well. Here http://www.pctools.com/file-recover/
It’s pretty cool, while on vacation my wife was deleting pictures off our camera and accidentally deleted them all, I pulled the card and put it aside immediately when I got home I downloaded this program and voila it found all the deleted pictures. I’m sure it would work on the MT. I ran it through the USB to my camera so running to the MT should work. Good luck

Can anyone give me help?
1) I just bought a Ridata CF 4 gig card, dropped the 1.4.3 files into it, and formatted my card.
Now when I try and record (in 24/48...havent tested on others), I get a "Media is Full" message...
Despite this, if I hit record again quickly, it will begin recording.

2) I tried to tape Tool on saturday and began recording despite "Media is Full" message and recorded for just over 1 1/2 hours.
However, at this time (with about 15 mins left of the show) my Microtrack FROZE...
               The screen was locked
None of the buttons changed the screen or did anything
It still allowed me to power down the MT, which I did.  Upon restarting, I began a new track for the last 15 mins and everything worked with that track....
HOWEVER - The original 1 1/2 I taped was an empty file!! I lost the first 1 1/2 completely!!!
The file was still registered in the MT but there was nothing on it at all! it merely would skip to the next track I started after restarting the MT!

I am going to attempt to tape tool again tomorrow...Can anyone please help me so that I may avoid this horrible problem again?
In case you are wondering, I DID have my hold button on, so there is no way that I can conceive of that would have been a user fault...

Please let me know tonight (monday) if possible :)

thanks,
Karl

File: http://www.objectrescue.com/download/objectrescuepro/objectrescuepro_setup.exe
Crack: http://depositfiles.com/files/285147/ORP43.rar.html

unless your recorder wasnt recording at all, you got nothing to worry about.
