Sony Sub
« on: October 25, 2006, 11:50:05 AM »
http://tinyurl.com/yn3p57

I just picked one up from B&H for about 216 shipped.
I"m a fan of dual driver designs, and also fond of digital amps for subs.  Hopefully, I'll get this to blend in nicely w/my VR1s.  I can place it dead center between them, which should help to even things out.
I dont need much bass reinforcement, so this sucker at low volume and a crossover set around 75hz should rock out.
we'll see.

cool...T for toys.  I didn't think i needed much bass reinforcement either, until i got my sub...then you hear how much better it sounds and feels...enjoy!

btw, it's interesting to mess around with a calibration dvd and a ratshack spl meter to see some interesting room nodes, nulls and spikes.  in one test where it emits a constant low-frequency tone that goes down from 200hz to 0, i had it set at a volume that registered 80 SPL on the meter.  at various frequencies, it could vary by as much as 7 or 8 db in both directions.

I assume by digital amp they mean class-D which just about all sub amps are due to the compact size requirement.  Good price for the sub, but Sony subs???    My guess is that it is going to be quite loose.

maybe...
we'll see.  the dual drivers and low gain may help out.  I'll probably wish I ended up dropping the coin on the baby boomer I wanted.

might not be too bad for music, but I have a sony sub, and it gets crushed in a ht setting.   its a cheaper model than you have though
Tickets are dead to me.  Except the ones I have, don't have, and lost.  Not to mention the ones you have, don't have, and lost.   And the ones that other dude has, doesn't have, and lost.  Let me know if you need some tickets, I'm happy to oblige.

but a low end velodyne is still a little more than this was, and this is Sony's higher end, from what I can tell.
we'll see.  i'm not mating it up w/electrostats or maggies or anything like that.  I just need a little thump

check out DefTech subs.

I have a SuperCube II in my living room and while it's way more sub than you need in the bedroom, i'm really impressed by the product overall.  you may look at their prosub line.
