Buzzing with the R-09?
« on: November 11, 2006, 04:43:41 AM »
Morning Tapers,
I've been trying out my SP-TFB-2s (http://www.soundprofessionals.com/cgi-bin/gold/item/SP-TFB-2) this morning for the first time with my R-09 but all I'm picking up is a very loud buzzing sound.
I've gone over the R-09 manual a few times now and tried various different settings but nothing makes any difference.
Any ideas?

Have you tried with the R-09 mic power turned on (input settings in the menu)???

Yep. I'm just about to dig out some connectors and try it with my old mixer to see if I get the same results.

Well it seems to be something wrong with the R-09 as all my mics give me the same buzzing, yet they all work fine else where....

Yep. I'm just about to dig out some connectors and try it with my old mixer to see if I get the same results.

Then something is broken.  Straight mini-plugs into earlier Summer runs of R-09 deck's caused input jacks to let go of bad soldering to the circuit board pads, and the fact they 'forgot' to glue down the jacks to the boards cause too many of these decks to fail almost immediately.

I do upgrades on these models so I've noticed the cause and it seems recent runs now have excellent soldering, AND they are now placing silicone adhesive to the sides of the jacks to help secure these to the board better.  However, the silicone is quite flexible, so doing anything rough with straight plugs may still break the circuit pads off the board like some have experienced already.
