DVD burner not recognized as burner
« on: November 14, 2006, 11:11:44 PM »
Anybody have any suggestions regarding burners not working? I figured it was the burner, after my DVD stopped recognizing blanks while trying to burn Ween at the Fox.  :P
Things I've tried:
New burner
Different cable
Uninstall/reinstall
Uninstall Nero, EZ CD Creator, reinstall just EZ Cd, reinstall just Nero
Master/Slave jumper mess around with
Different blanks CDRs and DVD's
I can see CD's just as a CDROM but not as a burner. Device Manager says everything is hunky dory, as it always does when everything sucks.
I don't see reloading the firmware having any good effect as one burner is brand new. Anything in BIOS or the registry I should look at?

I just had this problem as well, but I think its my burner, so I'm getting another one here in a few days.  I'll see what happens to mine when I install the new one.

Because nothing says "I have lots of money and am sort of confused as to how to spend it" like Bose.

your prolem is that its a pc and not a mac  :P

seriously though
try updating (or at least search) the firmware, i got a "new" burner not to long agao and when i checked the firmware there had been 2 new versions released from the one that came loaded on it
a fast search will tell you if there is a new version out, if so i would give that a try

My burner was too new for the version of Nero I was using (this was 2 years ago).  I was on Nero 5 and bought an NEC 2510A for my XP box.  Had to upgrade to Nero 6 to have the burner recognized.  A friend of mine had the exact same problem as well and we could only fix it with an upgrade.

Try flashing your ASPI layer

Thanks for the tips. I installed the latest version of Nero and checked the drives in BIOS to see that both drives are recognized. One of the burners started working, and the other one still looks like a CDROM. So at least I am back in business again. I think the ASPI layer does not apply to XP but I loaded some driver in anyway, that didn't do anything.

Edit: 2 weeks later- the other burner has decided to come back for some reason after over a month of not working. It came back slowly- first it was a CDROM then it was a DVD-ROM drive, today it is a DVD- burner. Musta been sick.
