Topic: rec level with r-09 line in with nbox and mk4

Got a r-09 a while back and tried it out with nbox and mk4 mics.

I taped a show at a small rock club. I plugged it into the line input and noticed that even with rec level set to 2/30 on the 2-09, the clip light was on a couple of times. Changed the setting to 1/30 and taped the rest of the show.

The only reason I could think of was that I accidentally plugged it into mic in.

Next time I was at a bigger venue and taped with the same setup. Same thing happened and I'm 100% sure I plugged it into line input.

Asked someone who told me he ran the same excact setup and usually ended up with rec level set to 9-10/30 .. I don't think the shows over here are that loud so it has to be something else. Does anyone else have this experience?

I had my R-09 set on level input 15 and my preamp on a little gain and what I got was actually too low in volume when I play it back on my stereo (headphones it's okay), but then again I don't have the same setup as you. Could perhaps be your nbox?

The last show I taped - Bo Diddley, from row 6 centre - I had the recorder set at 25, the preamp with +10 dB, and I still needed to boost it in post.

the nbox puts out a line level signal, i thought the R9 was capable of handling it but you might want to try an attenuator cable. You definitly need attenuation using an nbox with a microtracker

With my 4022>sax>r-09 setup I've run anywhere from sax @ +20dB/r-09 @ 8 to sax @ +6dB/r-09 @ 15.

However, you're using schoeps to nbox, so this may not be very useful info.
