Had some problems with my Micro Track last night???
« on: March 03, 2007, 10:11:22 AM »
The Micro Track is my first rig and last night was the first time I had used the Micro track to record a full show.  UP until then I had only recorded tops 15 min worth of information.

Last night I hit the record button too early.  So I stopped it by hitting the record button again and then maybee one min later I started it again by doing the same thing.  Everthing was recording until just before the encore when hit record again to stop it, I looked down and saw the Micro Track bootup page.

Later on at home I found that the recorder had two files on it.  One that was the short recording and the second one was a total of 0min 0sec.  But the when I asked the micro track how much media time I had left on the memory card it said 2 hours 30 min even though there should be 3 hours and 13 min.

The mirco track was unable to play back the second file even though there was something on it.

Anyone know what happened????   ??? ??? ???

I ran into some problems recent with getting data off my CF card (not microtrack related) and Live2496 recommended his program Audiohack.  I didn't get my recording back but his program looks like a good place to start.  Check out this thread for more info on Audiohack:

One other thing, are you on the current MT firmware?  I haven't heard of this happening on an MT for a while.  If you are not at firmware version 1.4.5/Bootloader 1.04, make sure you update.

Good luck!

Thanks for the replys

I was using the second newest filmware version when this happend.  The newest update did not adress this problem so it should have been fine.  I will try using a recovery program to get the file back.

One more thing before I go. After reading some moe threads about this I am getting the understanding that it is the compact flash card that has the problems and that is why I should not record on it any more.

Would formatting it again help?

I have a 2gb kingston CF right now.  Would Sandisk be better?

I will check some more threads

Thanks  8)

I've never trusted the release notes for the MT firmware to be complete.  I would recommend moving to the latest firmware.  It is very solid.  There will be little to no risk in updating to it.

Good luck!

I agree. The latest firmware seems to be more tolerant of various CF cards. That said, I have found Sandisk (the original, I have not tried any of the ultra versions) to be a most stable card for the MT. I know there are others, but I have experienced some issues with Kingston ande Trancend (although I cannot remember if I had the newest firmware at the time), and I have never had an issue with my Seagate 5gb microdrive, but that eats power and cuts down severely on recording time.

I think you will lose your recording, if you reformat that card. When I was running some test with an 8gb card,
those test files were gone when I reformated (not that I needed them).  Good luck!

Great Advice!

I aslo looked into the hacking software.  I am not to sure how to what looks like dos promt.  I am going to fiddle around with it.

This weekend I will record again and I will let everyone know if that fixed the problem.

One other thing.  rodeen what is going on your picture?  I have seen it before and wondered what was going on there.  It looks so random

one more thing did you try to transfer the file to a computer, or just try to play back through the MT?
you may want to try to transfer it, just a suggestion.

FYI, always handle your CF cards carefully.  For example, it's a good idea to be sure the MT power is off before removing the card.  Also, when you plug the MT into your computer (or if you plug the CF card directly into a CF reader), there is a green arrow icon in Windows system tray called, "Safely Remove hardware."  It's a good idea to use this before removing your CF card or unplugging the MT.

SD cards seem to be pretty indestructible, but CF cards seem a lot more sensitive, and you can ruin a CF card if you're not careful.  Another poster also mentioned reformatting the card before each new use - seems like a good idea to me and it's now part of my routine.

So far I've trashed two CF cards through carelessness/ignorance, and even worse lost 3 excellent recordings.  Learn from my pain <grin>

Fwiw, I really don't recommend playing back files on the MT. Mine has locked up a few times during playback and then I've had to reboot it a couple times before my computer is willing to read and/or transfer the files. So record and straight to transfer if possible.

I use a 8 gig transcend card w/ latest firmware.
