In need of 25mm shock-mount recommendations.
« on: April 11, 2007, 01:09:27 PM »
I am looking for some middle of the road quality shock mounts for the Avenson STO-2 mics I just got. The mounting area of the mics is 25mm(1inch) in diameter and about 2 1/2 " long.

After much research I have found none that I like(that cost less than the mics anyway).

Most mounts for this diameter mic seem to be for shotgun style mics or just plain too big and bulky. So far the only ones I'm even considering are these;
http://www.bswusa.com/proditem.asp?item=SP-25. Its not really what I am after but all I am really finding.

I would like to get ones styled like the Schoeps a20shttp://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=NavBar&A=getItemDetail&Q=&sku=386430&is=REG&si=acc&showAll=1

Any ideas? ???

When we put them in shock mounts we just used the Avantones.  They fit pretty nicely and are easy to slide in an out of the mount because of the tapered end.

You mean these?  http://www.avantelectronics.com/SSM.htm

I thought about them, but their site says they are for  "microphones with a (19mm-22mm) diameter body"

Might have to give them a try. Thanks for the suggestion.

yes, but I think they still fit the Avensons.  I'm trying to remember, but I think at one of the last shows we used them for we put them in the SSM mounts.  I remember commenting on how easy they were to slide into the mounts compared to the Beyers.

An alternative would be AT 8415, although they're bigger than the SSMs.

Here is another alternative on the cheap.

http://www.tensimount.com/ordering.htm

I actually have a pair of these and like them alot.  Had them for 2 years or so, still going strong with several hundred shows under their belt.

I was looking at those as well, thought they looked a little fragile.

They metal or plastic?
And, about how far apart are the two rings?

Thanks

I'm not sure on the distance.  I'm away from home and can't check.  FWIW, I never rant those Avensons in them as I ran them in the rubber clips (that I couldn't find to ship to you) that came with them.

The Tenismounts are plastic, but are sturdy.  They have been to B'roo twice, to all sorts of crazy taping enviroments, squashed down in my bag, dropped, the whole shebang and they work just fine.  I highly recommend them as a cheap alternative mount.  I'm sure you could contact the company by email or phone and ask the dimensions/distance between the two rings.

I'll do just that, thanks for the suggestion.
