Topic: 24bit/48.000 audio CD. Is that possible?

I'm puzzled. Yesterday I opened this 24/48 wave file with Audacity, and exported the whole thing as AIFF  to my desktop using the Signed 24 bit PCM option, so I still had a 24/48 file. Today,couple hours ago I decided to perform some editing  using Sound Studio ( I do not use Audacity for editing). Anyway, I saved the edited file on my desktop, again using the 24/48 option. But I forgot to perform resample and dither before burn an audio CD. Much to my surprise, everything works fine! I double checked the final file with Audacity and it's still 24/48, a huge 1.3 gb file. Maybe, in the middle of the process, something is converting the file to 16/48, I don't know. Any thoughts?

What s/w did you use to burn the CD?  I think you're right, the burning s/w did a quick & dirty resample to 44k and dither (or maybe even truncation) from 24- to 16-bit.

Thanks for your kind and fast reply. I'm always buging you, sorry about that. I burn my CD using Toast version 7. So what would you sugest? To my ears the burned CD sounds fine. Should I resample and dither this file properly and then burn it again?

Yeah Toast probably did something on the fly. It can't burn 1.3GB onto 700MB disc without something happening. You might want to use your prefered methond of sample format conversion and reburn. You do know that burning an audio CD at 48khz will cause playback to be off pitch right? The samples will be played back at 44.1khz.
