Opinions/Advice on my 1st stealth setup
« on: April 29, 2007, 05:24:34 PM »
I'm a newbie at this so any advice is appreciated.

I have a Belkin TuneTalk Stereo, the 80GB 5.5 Gen iPod and the Giant Squid Audio Labs Omnidirectional Powered Stereo Microphone with bass roll off (that's if the guy ever sends it to me!!)

Can I expect to get a decent recording from this setup?  I'll mostly be doing pop and rock shows.

I plan on hitting a Dolores O'Riordan show as my first attempt.

Thanks.
My as of yet untested rig: GSAL powered omni w/bat box>Edirol R-09

There's been pretty mixed results on the TuneTalk product, but I think you'll be fine since the G.S. mics are powered. Just make sure not to be too close to the sound as to not overload it (and cause distrotion).

I think your mics will be ok for now. But you should really consider getting rid of the IPOD and getting a edirol R-09 in the end you will be very happy with the edirol. Its a solid product with a good rep.

Well, I'll use the iPod for its intended purpose.   ^-^  I was looking at the Edirol if I get real serious about this.

I ordered my Giant Squid mics on 4/20 and he still hasn't shipped them yet.  I'm beginning to regret buying from there.

I all fairness if you ordered from me its a minimum 2 weeks after payment before anything ships out.. That's the way custom electronics works. Everything takes time to build... I think its ok to send him an email with an estimate for shipping but remember custom made stuff is not like shopping at radio shack.. :)

Point taken, although it would be nice to have that info upfront.  My estimate for shipping has gone from last Tuesday, to Saturday, to tomorrow.

I cant defend another vendor but I know that in my life sometimes things happen... That make things go out late.. I dont want things to be like that but they do happen.

Well, she's solo now.  The band is all different, but she is/was the voice of the Cranberries, so the sound is simialr.  She's doing shows in Montreal and Toronto in the beginning of July.
